June is busting out all over - or in the case of Texas - flooding - We have had some flash floods here but nothing compared to other parts of the state. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been or who is currenty dealing with the aftermath of the wet and severe weather of the past month or so. I wish we could send some of our water west to California!  Hopefully June will be more settled weatherwise. In the meantime - I have been enjoying seeing everyone's projects and progress - weave on all!

once asked if Wyoming was part of Texas. I found people do not always have a good grasp of geography!

When I first moved east from Iowa, we were driving down I-95 to spend Thanksgiving with cousins just south of DC. As we left after work, it was late, and I was dozing in the passenger seat at some point south of Philly.

Out of the haze I heard my husband say a name I didn't quite recognize, because after all, most of the rest stops in New Jersey are named after locals.

I finally woke up enough to ask, "So who IS Marilyn Crabcakes, anyway?"

(That was 28 years ago, and still one of his favorite travel stories!)

Hi bjr,

I make chocolates only once a year, over Thanksgiving weekend. I make about 90-100 pounds, in thirty-odd flavors, and send out about 40 boxes to friends and family and 30-35 to charity donors. The only way to get on the chocolates list (if you're not close friends or family) is to get in on the Chocolates for Charity annual campaign, where people donate $100 to the charity of my choice in exchange for a box the week after Thanksgiving.

I've been doing chocolates at Thanksgiving for over 20 years now, and have gotten pretty good at it - while my chocolates aren't quite as pretty as some of the top artisan chocolatiers' work (I don't have the right equipment for that), they look really nice and the flavors are fantastic. My mom's favorite is the white guava (white chocolate), my personal favorites are the fig-cognac and the strawberry-balsamic vinegar, and Mike loves the coconut tequila lime fudge. It's a ton of work but also a LOT of fun!

And...drum roll please...I finally have an official ship date for my TC-2 jacquard loom! It is scheduled to ship to me July 3. That's next Friday! Less than a week!! I'm totally excited. I asked Vibeke to send me a photo of the loom at the factory before they ship it, so I can put it on my blog.

Definitely snoopy dance time. For home made chocolates and to the arrival of an eminent loom.

Couldn't agree more! Can't make a snoopy dance , but can still send celebrating vibes

You all crack me up!

I finished up the plain weave patterns today!

We are away glamping  (glamorous camping) for  4 days, so it will be tablet weaving starting tomorrow. I have the yarns pickec out for my next weft faced sample for when I return!

Dithering over what I should do in the studio.  The mat warp is ready to weave, there is still nearly 30 yards on the AVL, and I have a huge box of fibre to weigh out in 100 gram packets for two spinning workshops next month...decisions, decisions...and here I am back in the Internet!

cheers

Today we go to the island of Korčula, where if I'm lucky, I may find some bobbin lace being made!

It was a dreary weekend, so between work stints, I finished the samples for the Complex Weavers Early Books and Manuscript group, and a set of 4 towels.

I am contemplating winding another warp, tying onto the existing, and weaving off a few more. (Looking to see if I can do it in another colorway.) The goal would be to have the loom cleared in two weeks, but the towels weave up quite fast.

Glamping and 1.5 warp faced samples done!!!!

Hello everyone,

After mostly been weaving bands on smaller looms (tabby w pickup patterns) and handheld only (diagonal 2/2 twill, directly translated from Swedish they are called 'laid bands'). I've decided to up the width on my weaving work for a while and waiting for a 32" Kromski Forte that is being sent by mail. In the meantime I'm sketching some tabby patterns, just for fun.

Now on week 2 teaching knitting and weaving. Thrilled yesterday when a 10 year old pulled off 10 feet of sampler that she'd woven the first week. Most kids are happily producing 8 inches a day but this little one just ran through PW and twills and started making up patterns. Very, very fun to watch 8 happy little weavers.

We did an hour nature walk at Horstmonceux Castle and enjoyed their Science observatory. The Nature walk and gardens provided plenty of future weaving inspiration. I finished another tablet band sample!

Today the beach another castle and probably some spinning.

Just plugging along on my Structo floor loom. All pieces are lightly stripped and one coat of poly has been applied. The wood looks nice. Got my Weavers Delight warped and running again. I did a few picks, then I discovered a threading error!!  DRAT!

Such is life.
