trouble winding onto front beam

I can't get rid of a bump in the towel I'm winding on to my front beam. Seams to be caused by the knots when I tied on to the rod. I've tried putting in a paper towel tube, but that didn't work!! I'm trying to weave a houndstooth pattern,the bump sure shows. HELP PLEASE
