I'm in Franklin 1/2 way between Montgomery and Auburn near I-85.  I just got my Harrisville 4 shaft Tuesday.

Ohhh, that was my first loom!  Did you get the kit or order it assembled?

Also, do you go to the Birmingham Guild?  I'd be glad to pick you up if you can make it to Montgomery.  I often rendezvous with people at the Panera at East Chase.

I would love to get a guild going for OUR neck of the woods.  Know anybody besides you and me )-:?

If you are putting it together and need any help, give me a shout.  One thing, though, I will be in Sarasota over Easter.  Not entirely sure when I will come home after, but probably Tuesday or Wednesday.

You are welcome to drop by down here anytime!  I love talking to somebody who understands what I'm talking about.  Most people around here describe me as a "loomer."  sigh.  I'm working on it!

Anyway, have fun with your new baby!  They make great starter looms!

I was totally lucky - I got it used and completely assembled for about 1/4 the price of new.  The owner spent the day with me making sure that I understood how to use it - I brought the warp threads and warped it under her supervision.  She included a boat shuttle with 4 bobbins too - very nice!  We just picked up a metal rod to make our bobbin winder, just need that and a couple of pieces of wood and a drill - should be ready to use this weekend.

I just finished a few classes weaving classes using a rigid heddle - boy the things I learned made it super easy to use this loom!

I have been practicing with different twill patterns separated by tabby.  Very fun!

I have never been to a guild meeting - when are they?  I might be interested in going with you.  East Chase is pretty convenient for me since I live out that way.  I know that they have a guild started in Montgomery, but I don't know how much weaving is going on.  There are a few spinners, knitters and crocheters.  I don't attend the guild meetings as they are on Thursday night and I don't drive after dark, too early to get husband to drive me(esp as he would have to hang around or go somewhere else for 2 hours)..

I'm not working presently, so I would love to get together sometime soon.

Thanks for your kind offer!

Birmingham is pretty much the same thing: a mix of various fibre crafts, but a great group.  I had no idea there was a guild in Montgomery.

Anyway, the B'ham meetings are second Saturdays.more info here http://www.gbfg.itgo.com/

It's a very congenial group of people.  I enjoyed it thoroughly.  I think there is a dye workshop coming up.

Anyway, any time you have a question, give me a shout, I'll do my best! (-;
