Can someone help me identify this loom. It has a 24 inch weaving width.  This is the only view the person sent me.  She said it was refinished. Thanks for your help.

Loom manufacturers put their name on their looms.  If there is no name, then it is probably hand made or a very limited edition.  It has some of the features of the early Harrisville looms which were kits and had to be sanded and finished by the customer.  This loom has metal plates I have not seen before and the Harrisville looms have lots of wing nuts.

Yes it looks like an early Harrisville - but the metal bars that the harnesses move on are different.  The name may have been taken off when it was refinished.

I have a couple of these looms.  The are Ullman looms.  Portable and very nice to weave on.  NOt sure where they were made but I live in Michigan and have found several of them in the Detroit area.  Also bought one in Phoenix this spring.  I also bought a 36" that was almost the same that was an Ulltex.

Yes the loom is an Ultex. That is what is written on the beater. It looks like a great workshop loom. Thank you.

Hi! I live in Ann Arbor, and just got an Ullman loom. I'm looking for information on it, so just thought I would check to see if you have learned anything new about them since 2009 :)

Thanks!

I'm getting a 36" Ullman loom tomorrow. I was wondering if you know the folded dimensions?  I m scared of this fitting in my SUV.

You should be fine - the one I had was 22" and fit in my small wagon.  The one I had both back and front folded.  I am not sure about the 36" loom

Can anyone tell me how to take off the harnesses?  I'm scared of breaking it and one catches on another.  I'm thinking of replacing my wire heddles with Texsolv.

Check the frame weight before replacing the heddles.  Most jack looms depend on the weight of the steel heddles to hold down the resting frames and to return lifted frames to their rest position.  If you replace the steel heddles with texsolv, the frames may no longer weigh enough to work properly.  You may have to add weights and that can be tricky on closely spaced frames.

It originally came with string heddles, as you can see from the above picture.

Sorry, I missed that in the photo.  You should be able to remove the frames by removing the bars on which they slide.  Usually one frame catching on another is the result of either mis-assembly, a warped frame, a bent heddle bar, or a bent heddle bar clip.
