I have been asked to give a workshop to people with various experience of weaving and peg looms. I have tried this before and found that when I tried to keep everyone working along with me so we were all going at the same rate there were several people who were having to hang around for the less experienced. Given that some of the people can read drafts etc is there a weaving patter for peg looms and if so - rather than me having to re-invent them - where do I find them?

The 2 shaft loom with a peg at the top to switch sheds, or the pot-holder type looms where you weave with loopers, or a small loom that might also be called "Zoom Looms" or "Weaveits" by brand name?

Paulz,

Your link was not active, so I did a quick search and saw what looks to me like a wooden-dowel version of "straw" weaving.

I have seen straw weaving done with children because it is a low-cost way to provide portable & cheap looms. The basic idea is to align a bunch of straws, run yarn through the centers of the straws, and then weave around the outsides as far as you want or to the top of the straws.

This looked like what folks were doing on the wooden dowels pointing straight up from the base when I searched "peg looms". Is this what you meant?

What do people do with the finished weaving from these peg looms?

Just an afterthought – you didn't mean patterns for building peg looms, you meant weaving patterns to create on these looms, correct?

Yes I do mean weaving patterns to create patterns such as triangles, colour blocks, diamonds, circles etc on these looms

I saw the other thread (with the hat illustration) and now it all makes sense. (Paulz: the felting process is a great idea, too!)

Why can't you make nearly anything? Just felt (or stitch) the smaller pieces together to make something larger?

That might be a great activity for a group to collaborate on a project and make something bigger than a single individual could.

If you make squares, you could imitate the patterns out there for the Zoom Looms or WeaveIt's. One of my guildmates has been making stuffed dragons from one of these patterns.

Perhaps origami sources might give you ideas for rectangle shapes?

OK, I am all ears on how to make patterns.
