Has anyone ever done boundweave on a rigid heddle loom?  I just purchased a 13"  rh loom and am interested in doing samples on it.  Boundweave is being studied in my study group and I am innterested in trying it on the rh loom.  What size warp and weft, etc?  I am planning to use 5/2 pearl cotton for the warp sett at 8 epi.  I'm not sure what to use for weft but would like to use wool.  Any suggestions for wool to use?  Thanks.

With a pickup stick, you can pick any pattern you like for boundweave.

To get good coverage, you may need to experiment with various threads until your effect is pleasing. There are no hard and fast rules, so if there is time before your study group meets, experiment with your current choice and a VERY simple pattern and change reeds/threads until you're satisfied with your "ground weave" .

From there, you can start designing your patterns.

Thanks Sara.  Your information was very helpful. I'll try the 5/2 pearl for warp and work from there.  Will let you know what I find out.  Lisa

Let us know how you go on, the backstrappers are looking into this! Trying to simplify the process, without having to rely too much on pick-up sticks, is definitely the way to go.  I have read that it goes through huge amounts of weft.

I wove krokbragd on my rigid heddle loom last winter, another weft-faced weave structure like boundweave. I sett it at 8 ends per inch, with 8/4 carpet warp as warp and worsted-weight wool yarn as weft. I did use a tapestry fork to beat the weft down, instead of the heddles. Have fun and let us know how it turns out.

So far all I have done is order my 8/4 carpet warp as I am busy working on other projects at the moment.  I plan to sett it at 8 epi. Will keep you posted.
