The scarf looks great!  Nice edges, nice detail with the pick-up pattern...good job!  What kind of yarn are you using?

Hi - thanks! Both the purple and the white are Caron Simply Soft "Party" in Purple Sparkle and Snow Sparkle. I may be pushing it a little bit with the 10 dent heddle for this yarn, as it is a little sticky, but it really hasn't been too bad. :)

Now that this scarf is done and off the loom, I have more questions. My daughter really likes it, so all is well, BUT...........even though I was very careful to make notes and repeat the same pattern at the other end of the scarf, there is a huge difference in the size of the pattern. I know now that I could have made a paper template to help keep things even. But what other factors would have caused such a large difference? I counted all of the rows, and they are the same, but I am surprised that my beating could have made the last end so much tighter than the first. This was not an expensive yarn; could the yarn itself have varied that much in thickness, or is it all in the "beat" (and a different mood on a different day - ha!)? All comments welcome. :)

And I always say that "Life Happens" in our projects whether they are weaving or knitting etc. It could be the beatting was different when you got to the other side. You can check that buy tossing a ruler on your scarf and counting vertically how many shots you have (how many times you wove the yarn through) in an inch and compare it to the first end. Also, Acrylic yarn doesn't block much. Blocking is like when you hand wash a sweater and lay it out to dry in the shape you want (like putting the arms out neatly, not having the hems rolled etc) so washing may not help termendously. But, do embrace it and call it your "design feature" or "beautiful mistake". Often, because we are the maker of something, we are very harsh on our selves. Most of the time, unless it is a gapeing hole, nobody will notice anyway so smile and don't point out the booboos when you get compliments. It's super pretty and you should for sure be proud of it! And heck, a teenage daughter wants to wear it!

Notes

This is my 3rd project, being created on my 16 inch Kromski Harp RH. This scarf is for my daughter Whitney, who is attending college for the first time in the fall. She wants a long skinny scarf, with long fringe. I made up the pattern as I learned how to use the pick up stick, and took notes, so that the other end will (hopefully!) be the same. When finished, I may hand embroider the school letters on it, if she thinks she would like that. Warped with the direct peg method for ease and speed, but I would like to continue to learn how to use the warping board. All comments welcome!!
