Macomber has stopped making the Air Dobby/Computerization parts for their looms.  Has anyone heard of someone using another loom manufacturer's computer assist/lifing system?  Do you think it's possible?  I love my Macombers, but lifting 16 shafts and being accurate when I need more than my 18 treadles is becoming a problem.  Thanks.

Have you tried other brands of multishaft looms? Macomber seems to be engineered for a solid 4-shaft to 8-shaft loom. The shafts are heavy and the weight brings them back down after lifting. The more shafts you have, the heavier the load. I tried a 60" 16-shaft Macomber with computer-assist for easy tie-ups etc, back in 1987 when I was relatively young and strong. It was not fun to lift 8 out of 16 and I wanted to work with tied weaves, often lifting 14 out of 16 shafts. I bought my first AVL after that workshop with the Macomber. Now there are quite a few options for using 16 shafts without straining various parts of your body. I knew that I wanted to continue weaving for a long time. Treat yourself to a loom that is designed to work well with the number of shafts you want. Or at least give another loom a try!
