Hi folks,

Is there anyone still on this group? I'm new to inkle weaving.  I just made my first loom from interweaves free ebook.  The patterns they have all call for 10/2 cotton.  I have 3/2.  How will I know how many threads to put on the loom for a 1 1/2"  sample?

Thanks,

Kay

Since inkle weaving is warp faced, what I would do is take a ruler and wrap the 3/2 around it to find out how many wraps per inch.  Then double whatever that number is.  Put on the shortest warp you can on your inkle loom and weave a sample and see how close to 1 1/2 inches wide you can get.  With inkle weaving, you can fudge the width a bit by how tightly you pull your weft in.  However, if you just weave so it feels right, and then count the actually number of warps in 1 1/2 inches, then you'll know exactly the number of warp ends you'll need for your full sized warp.

In the beginning of the book, she has estimates for projects, similar to what was described above, and lots and LOTS of pattern ideas!

I have been contacted to make several yards of 100% linen tape 1.5 inches wide. The customer wants it to be coarse rather than fine so I thought to use sport wieght linen yarn on my inkle loom. I've done 1.5 to 3 inch wide tape using perle cotton, does the idea of using sport weight seem like a good one? I tried to do a project with worsted wool and it went terribly wrong <g>.
