I will be flying to Japan on March 13, returning March 23. This is a short trip, my second, flying with my husband who will speak for a conference in Hiroshima. I have not been there before. We had 3 days in Kyoto in 2003 and I have a list of places I want to go there but could happily add to that list. I have not found much in the way of weaving or woven textiles in Hiroshima but I plan to check out the big stores. In 2003, the big department stores each had an area with fabrics for kimono and obi made to order.

I'm sure you already know this but Habu has opened a store in Kyoto. If you have time check it out. Store addresses at left bottom of this web page. http://habutextiles.com

The New York Times yesterday ran an article "36 Hours in Kyoto" in their travel section with interesting web links. It should be easy to find on their web site.

Yes, I saw the NYT article. We enjoyed 3 days in Kyoto in 2003 and I know that a week or two would be better. That was in October and I insisted on going to Nara for one night because I had heard a seminar about the treasures of the temple there. Nara is a wonderful town which was very important in Japan before 759 AD (if I remember correctly). We did see the exhibit of treasures for the year 2003, a special experience and highly recommended.

I will try to get to the Habu store this time. The Nishijin area is wonderful. We leave on March 11th and I just got home from a 2-week teaching trip to AZ and CA.

Can't wait to hear about this trip when you get back.

That should be a wonderful trip over there. Sounds interesting and exciting to.

Myself, I'm not much of a world traveller, I never had the itch. About 1200 miles from home is about as far I ever get. Like getting back home to. ;)

Hi, I have summer trips planned to Alaska (Kenai Peninsula, Anchorage) and Barcelona in the near future.  Anyone have suggestions on weaving related sites?  I particularly love tapestry, but anything fiber will do.  Thanks so much,

Ellen

Sorry....How does one do that?

Ignorantly,
