The end of the month is soon upon us. Make sure you get projects posted and tagged as Halloweave 2013 so we can vote on prize winners. We have had a productive month, lets keep it going in the months to come. We will continue our discussions over in Daily Weaverliness! Weave on. . . .

I am hoping the silence on here means lots of weaving time for everyone. I managed to get about 23 inches woven last night on my dish cloth / wash cloth warp. Halloweave ends tomorrow and I am happy to report that so far I have had a successful and productive month!

I have been pondering over what I've been doing wrong. I went to do a pick on my double weave and realised it was interlocking rather than weaving on two levels. I checked the last pick was the one I thought it was and thought I must do the opposite sett to ensure it all went on the bottom. Fortunately common sense took over as I realised this was a completely different sett not given in my pattern.

I took the last pick back to check whether the one before was incorrect and sure enough I had missed out a pick. I rewove the picks and am now up and running again - but even happier than before.

The other thing I have been happy about is spinning my alpaca. I teach supply (substitute teaching?) and last term a girl mentioned she lived next door to some alpacas. I showed her wool from other animals and she was really interested in knitting some rows. As a leaving present she brought in 41/2 lbs alpaca - not good quality stuff but stuff to practice with. I was struggling with spinning that but when I went to guild saturday one of the ladies told me I needed more twist.

I considered how to do this and sure enough if you use the smaller pulley wheel  - the one I usually ply with -you get more twist and the yarn is better. I wasn't enjoying spinning it but now I am.

What a good month I'm having (and my students today have been fantastic)

Well, I've been able to do something with weaving every day, and I must say I've gotten more done this month than in the past year!  So I'm very happy about that.  I dug out a warp I had cut maybe 2 years ago (?) and have put it on my floor loom, even though it is a tablet weaving project.  I want to see if I can use free weights to handle adjustable take up on a larger, heavier piece.  Another experiment!   I made weights out of rolls of pennies by wrapping them in duct tape and adding a little string to hang them - they are about 4 to 4.5 ozs and are working very well.  However, I'm sadly out of pennies.  I'm considering posting on my building list serve and asking to raid someones penny jar. Now I'm off to see if the Interweave site is working any better than yesterday- $2 digital issues, so I'm filling in my Handwoven collection.

happy to hear about everyone's progress - Paul so glad you figured out what was wrong with your double weave. Doesn't it make you feel good when you can recognize and correct your mistakes and keep going forward! Congratulations La La on your first project. Rosearbor your project sounds interesting! Weave on all!

My accomplishments admist the water emergency this month were more about finishing than starting. (And the projects spanned more than the month of October.) I finished the 7 yard dishtowel warp started this summer, and the 2 yard tablet warp that several Weavo members helped me execute (yes, you know who you are-a big thank you!)

I planned three new projects for a total of 11+ yards, and warped up one loom for demo with 5 yards. The rest of the time I spent moving things around from the water emergency, going through junk, then making trips to recycle, repurpose and dispose of junk.

All-in-all, an okay month! ;-)

Sally - that is some accomplishment list - especially given the water issue! Phew!

Halloweave is over - well at least in Central Texas - elsewhere in the world it is already tomorrow! I did some spinning at lunch today and will get to the loom in a few minutes. Weave on!

Well Its over. I'm so glad I joined in and am already looking forward to next year's.

I can also look forward to my dish towel kit arriving and you can bet I will update you as I make it. I also have a two shaft loom to warp up(two colours of pink)and alpaca (brown) for the weft I think should do nicely. A rug to finsih and some serious double weaving to be getting on with. That doesn't include all of the wool I have to spin, card, clean etc.

I think it is a good job its only three weeks until my first batch of home-made cider is ready for drinking. Add to that the elderberry wine ready for christmas and I can see I won't be in a fit state to weave if I'm not careful.

Many thanks to all you Active Arachnids.

Yes, congratulations to both paulz and La La.  And thanks again endorph, for getting us moving by starting up this group!

Guess that means that this is a SPECIAL group..... Just took a scarf off the loom that I did in a varigated yarn...I tested it before starting and it washed fairly well, but it's pretty much a disaster, after washing the fringe just bloomed... Well I am chalking that one up to experience, maybe I will wear it when I take the dogs out in the morning. Ha. They won't care...

I learned the hard way to finish fringe before washing - if you don't want a tangled mess twisting the fringe is the way to go! I trimmed the messy fringe on my scarf down to about an inch and it works just fine - I just hide the ends inside my coat!
