Please post photos of projects here!

I look forward to seeing all the great weaving!

Well, at least I think I'm doing it right.  After a few attempts, I think I've figured out that I weave pattern yarn using my two A block shafts (with alternating tabby throws in between), then to get the alternate squares I weave the pattern yarn with my B block shafts (again alternating tabby).  I might need a thicker pattern yarn, but what do you think?

Chris,

I'm very excited to see you project photo. I hope you can get back to it again soon! It looks great so far!

Cheers,

Erica

I am hoping to finish threading the loom tonight and maybe get started on the weaving.

Erica

Fantatsic Endorph! You ladies are far ahead of me in the Weave A Long, which has been disrupted by my still looming (pardon the pun) move!

here are the first few inches of my attempt - the center and edges look a little wonky due to the threading - on paper it looked cool - not so much in reality - but that's why we sample. As I worked along I got into a groove with the tabby between pattern pick.

I like the basic blocks you've got in the design, but I see what you mean about the center and edges. What did you do differently there? It almost looks like you have a doubled warp thread in those spots.

doubled but has an odd weft float. I do have one doulbed warp thread on the left selvedge because I counted wrong when I was winding my warp. It was an experiment that is not wholly successful but that's okay. All in the cause of learning. I will weave a bit more and see what it does off the loom. At least I understand the summer and Winter basics and since I only have four shafts to work with I don't have a whole lot more to figure out except block placement, etc. I can see using this to make some table runners, placemats, etc. So once the smaple is done I will begin planning a real project - minus my straight draw fiasco. Thanks for the challenge.

draft - although I must admit beyond the threading I am just playing with the treadling and not really following what I drafted. I am just having fun getting used to the pattern / tabby interaction. And am thinking of projects I can do with this technique

I would have *loved* to join you all in this WAL. I haven't woven a ton of summer and winter, but I DID sample a few years ago, and left some "bread crumbs" for myself. (Illustrations attached below.)

The first illustration is how I set up the loom, and what I treadled to get "all background" across the face of the fabric, then "all pattern". (If you take a mirror and look at the underside of your fabric, you will see the opposite of the top.)

Next, I treadled the blocks, just like you are doing, and made scans/photos of each side of the fabric.

After that, I treadled "dukagang", "double bricks", "bronson", "huck", and "honeycomb." I think the variety produced by this structure is amazing, even with just 4 shafts!

I am looking forward to more posts from everyone!

Sally - all comments and helps are welcome. I like how the all background almost gives the look of garter stitch. Your sample and descriptions are giving me some ideas to play with.

off the loom I am sort of liking the odd bits where I did a straight and a point threading. I will have to play with this some more after I get a couple of other projects done.

I'm still finding a few minutes here and there to weave.  I love the pictures of other projects.  I'm hesitant to "play" with other yarns on this warp -- I like what's happening so far -- but I'm thinking I'd like to see the coverage a thicker or softer yarn would provide.  I'm just so darn practical I hate to "waste" any yarn!  I'm thinking I'll weave what I can use for a runner and experiment with what's left of the warp.

to get a photo taken of the finished sample to post here - I am a littel limited with only 4 shafts but this has given me some ideas I want to play with down the road

I finished (all but hemming) my summer and winter project this weekend! This was a great project for a beginner like me to understand how the tabby is woven between pattern rows.

endorph

is beautiful Chris - congratualtions. Once I got the hand of it I really enjoyed my first venture into Summer and Winter. It was a good learning experience and makes me want to try an actual project now - like yours! Tina

This looks great, and don't stop at just ONE!
