Here' s a picture of the finished stole (unfortunately, I only photographed it folded and ready to deliver, as I was running out of time).

Well  that didn't work. It uploaded the picture but isn't showing it. Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Summer stole I went to my blog and copied the URL, then pasted it into the form.  I'll post this and see if it works. I did have to remove the final Forward Slash appended to my URL. Very Kewl.

So this is my stole, created on a Rigid Heddle loom using 5/2 varigated rayon and 5/2 cotton. I warped it using a barcode pattern created on a barcode generator, so it isn't entirely random. I began with the variagated weft for a few inches, then switched to the cotton for half the stole. At the center back, I began switching gradually back to the varigated using 2 shuttles, and ended using just the varigated. Because of the rayon, it has nice drape, but the cotton keeps it on the shoulders. Instead of creating a 60-degree angle, I just allowed the back of the stole to fall, but inserted a knitted  i-cord at the neckline so the stole would look as though it were floating.I should get a close-up of the back.

This is a test. The first image of my quilted journal cover was uploaded using the picture editor button. When you click on the Upload button, a new File Browser window comes up with tabs at the top. I clicked upload and selected an old photo within the size parameters. Then I clicked FCKEditor The spindle pic was not the correct size, but the File Browser allowed me to upload it anyways. I discovered the Resize button does work; it creates a new file with the same name, but in the correct size for posting. Then I just clicked the FCKEditor tab and it inserted the image itno this post.

Hi

That's beautiful, and really helpful.  I want to get onto weaving stoles from my handspun (I'm in a monastery).  At the moment I'm just doing scarves and wraps until I feel I know what I'm doing - don't want to have to stare at my mistakes in chapel every day!!  I like the barcode idea.  I've just done a scarf with stripes in fibonacci series widths (numbers from the series 1,2,3,5,8,13,21....) after reading an article on stripes in an old 'Handwoven'.

Hi, I saw that you are in the UK?  Where, exactly?  I get over there at least once a year for the last two weeks of the "Proms" and would love connecting with UK weavers.

Are you in an Anglican or RC order?  I am Episcopalian, but studied at RC schools run by Dominicans, so I guess "I cover the waterfront." (-;

I've been working on some stoles...see my blog http://weaversouth.blogspot.com/.....scroll down and click on "older posts" for more.

blessings,  Nancy C.

Were you able to locate the "Upload to FCKEditor" tab in the second popup window?

Hi Nancy

I'm a Carmelite sister (RC order - contemplative nuns) in Ware, Hertfordshire - about 25 miles from london.  We've got a wonderful Dominican friar giving us retreat talks this week - it's a very small world.   I'm only really a beginner at weaving - started to use my handspun yarns, and now I'm spinning to weave! - but I love the interplay of colour and texture, and the mathematical bit of my mind finds it fascinating too.  I'd love to look at your stoles but couldn't get through on the link.

All the best - mary

Hi,

I'll give it a try.  When you are posting a reply, there are icons above the writing area beginning with "Format" and ending with an icon that is for posting pictures/images.  The easiest explanation is here in the help: http://www.weavolution.com/node/1328  I followed along with those directions by having Weavolution open in two windows on my browser.  I went back and forth from the help topic to where I was posting a reply until I got the photo uploaded.  It's really not hard, just follow the step-by-step and I'm sure you'll work it out.

If not, let me know and we'll work out something by PM.

Claudia

This is my latest stole. Warp & Tabby are 10/2 tencel, pattern weft is 5/2 bamboo. Pattern is Honeysuckle overshot. The photo doesn't show on my Projects page but is at the bottom of the detail page.

I weave the fabric double width and then cut it in half lengthwise. I then apply an adhesive lining the width of the finished stole. The back is then mitered at right angles joining the two pieces. I then press the fabric and add the satin lining. The crosses are tatted by my daughter, Diane.

Hi Nancy

I've just seen this - love it.  The explanation is helpful too - it I get that far.  When you say adhesive lining, is this something you buy as adhesive - or do you use a fabric glue?  Would it then be dry clean only?

Nice to have a mother & daughter team!

I use an adhesive lining that you would use in constructing a dress. Light weight. It stabilizes the fabric and helps to make a sharp fold when you turn the seam allowance. If you have a pattern it helps you line up the pattern more precisely. I wash the fabric before construction and it can be handwashed after use.

Mary, I probably didn't use the right term. I use fusible interfacing,

Thanks Nancy - I'm not used to dressmaking but now I'll know what to ask for.

That's beautiful!  I'm still fretting over a pattern for one I want to make for a church member that's getting ordained in December.  I'm thinking a block twill that will have a cross towards the bottom.  I really need to get started on it.

I'm thinking about a doubleweave stole with a pick-up cross. I'll have to practice doubleweave first though.

TinaHilton (not verified)

That would work well too, wouldn't it?  I have done doubleweave, but only simple tubular or double-width.  No pickup or anything fancy.  It's on my list, though.
