So, I'm de-stashing, have been using my handspun. I have a merino-tencel blend that was dyed in watery blues/greens that I spun up a few years ago and left as singles. Now that I have it on the loom, I am having trouble deciding on a sett and what to use for weft. I threaded for rosepath, and have sett it at 12 epi, then 10 epi. It's too beautiful of a warp to completely cover, and I can't seem to find anything in my stash to use as weft that makes me happy.

I thought if I used a more open set and something that shrank differently, I"d get collapse. The only thing that collapsed so far was my idea.

I think that some light blue cottolin woven plain weave will make a serviceable,  hopefully pretty scarf. Other option, now thaI am looking closely, would be black cotton or there might be some black 20/2 wool in the stash that might do it.

These singles sat around long enough that the energy settled, so they didn't wrap around each other when I threaded more than one in the same heddle and dent as I had hoped. In thinking about it know, I wonder if I had run it back through the wheel and added a bit more twist, since it was sort of uneven and rather loosely twisted might have made it more active again. Yes, I know sometimes you don't want all that movement and activity, but I did.

hi Jerri, Any twist in the yarn will come back once its wet, so you may be pleasantly surprised and find you have the effect you were after.

I also leave my yarns as singles, often because I'm not sure with what I want to ply them, or how I want to ply them - it leaves my options open. And I have also  re-spun or un-spun them if necessary. One thing I do though is wash them. I do not weight the skeins as they are drying, so I can see what it is I have, and to even out the twist. I only leave yarn in a ball if I am about to ply it within a few days.

Hi Jeri

Are you weaving in anticipation of the guild sale?  The warp is gorgeous!

If I were able to spin such a beautiful warp (I'm not a spinner or color expert), my impulse would be to sett it warp faced and weave it with sewing thread or 60/2 silk so all that beauty would shine through.  I'd use a smooth rather than fuzzy weft (again to avoid obscuring the warp) and experiment with whether I liked plain weave or the rosepath better.

good luck!

Caroline, Gail and Laurie. I had my mind so set on rosepath that I didn't think about going warp faced. I originally warped for 2 scarve and a little for sampling. I am sure I am way into 1 scarf with all the sampling so far.

I did try 20/2 black wool, and like that effect, at least on the loom. I will finish that scarf, and resley the remainder warp-face. I've got the box of sewing thread by the loom and the 60/2 silk, which of course did not work at 10 epi.

More pics to come, at the office now waiting for my next client. J

and not so bad. I did get some differential shrinkage, may run it thru the washer again. I have a front loader now, less control for fulling, so I ran it tho delicate with warm wash and rinse.
