Does anyone have a draft for a bath towel to weave on a 4 shaft 24" loom? Also would you recommend using 3/2 cotton for a bath towel and if so how would you sley a 12 dent reed for that weight cottom?

Hi TN,

I would choose a finer thread for the warp.  The towel will last longer.  Use the 3/2 as a pattern weft alternated with a finer thread.  Even 8/2 would be a better thread for the warp, but I would probably use 16/2.  You could also use cottolin for the warp and tabby.  The linen would make it more absorbent and would give it a little sheen.

PS  Use a pattern that has a short float.  Overshot would not be good, but crackle would be fine. Twills are also good, but they get thick, so require a thinner warp thread.

There was an article in Handwoven, the cover shot was 2 blue bath towels.  The weaver donated those towels to our auction over a year ago.  I'll go see if I can find it in amongst the past issues in the bookcase.  It was, I believe in Sept 07 but I'll get back to you once I get a chance to check it out.

I remember those towels, they were really nice!

I purchased a Towel Kit from Woolgatherers in Wisconsin when I picked up my loom  The kit is Just the Buff by Lunatic Fringe.  It is 3/2 natural colored cotton for warp and weft in a twill.  I began weaving them today, they are weaving up very nicely.  They are set at 12 epi.
