I finished the 3s point twill WAL project.  It's a hand dyed tencel warp and weft from JOY (Just Our Yarn) Aziza.  The yarn was a joy to work with, pardon the cliche, and finished beautifully.  Wish I could keep it but it belongs to JOY.  I'll post the details in my Projects soon but wanted to put a picture here first.

Thanks everyone for all your help.  I could never have done this without y'all.

It's beautiful!!

I want to thank Susan and Weavolution for having this WAL. I learned so much. This is the first time using 2 heddles, so I practiced using Sugar n'Cream and after trying the diamond twill I re-threaded for a regular twill. I found that pushing down on the 2 heddles for shaft 3 was too fiddley, so I made a string heddle which worked great. Once I understood how the patterns worked, I tought myself to re-write a 4 shaft draft for a RH, and now I can't wait to plough through to unlimited patterns. I bought the Handweavers Pattern Directory of 600 weaves, (but I understand not all are suited to the RH).

In a few days I'm taking a double weave workshop with Jennifer Moore using a borrowed 8 shaft table loom. I realize that double weave can be done on a RH, but I don't want to slow the class down by trying to figure it out. But after the class I can't wait to try it on my RH.  It's interesting that after practicing on the table loom, I prefer my RH.  I even bought another RH that's 32" to go along with my 24".

I would love to have another WAL with 2 heddles and a different pattern.

Yes, double weave can be done on a rigid heddle loom set up with two heddles.  Double weave and 4S patterns can also be done on a rigid heddle loom set up with 3 heddles.  When using two heddles with a 4S pattern we need two pick up sticks (or with two string heddles).  When using 3 heddles for a 4S pattern we can eliminate the pick up sticks (or the string heddles).

The 3S Point Twill is a good one for leanring how to understand how to draw out 3S or 4S patterns for a multi-heddle rigid heddle loom because of the changes in direction.

Hey Kelly,

Looking forward to seeing your completed Sugar n'Cream project.  Did you post it in your projects?

I am looking forward to another WAL.  It sounds like you, too, are ready so get it going once you have completed your workshop and we'll all join in.

I like the idea of the string heddle.  I am finishing the warp on the 3s twill threading and am too lazy to do that now.  I don't mind the pushing down on 2 shafts thing, at least it works well.

Feel free to start the next WAL any time you like.  If you want to start a thread now and see who is interested and what we all want to weave that may be a good way to begin.  Looking forward to it.

Off to post my tencel scarf in my projects.  You'll find it here once it's complete.

Susan, are you up to helping us with another WAL?  When would it be convenient for you?

Just look at Claudia's lovely work!

CraftinSusan

Yes, I will be happy to help with another WAL.  Things are somewhat quiet for me for the next couple of weeks.

What type of draft does everyone what to do?  Another 3S or does everyone want to be brave and try a 4S using 2 heddles?

I have a book on weaving with 3 shafts.  There are a lot of wonderful patterns in it to explore.  There are many different twills too.  Would anyone be interested in a twill sampler?

I love the idea of a sampler.  It's a great way to learn about structure which I am craving lately. Plus, I have a lot of rescued yarn that I am uncertain how it will weave up and that's a great way to learn about it.

I am not in the mood for too much of a challenge, personally.  I am getting a Glimakra Standard 47" countermarche/counterbalance loom at the end of April and am concerned that will be sufficient challenge for me : )

Thanks for the compliment.  It's the tencel, makes everything look and feel wonderful

I would love to do a sampler.  I think some 4S patterns would be fun, but what ever everyone else wants is fine with me.

A sampler sounds good to me, too. I'm so new at this that any learning is good learning. I bought Betty Lynn Davenport's Textures and Patterns book, so a WAL sampler from that might be also good for those of us with less experience. The diamond twill, though, is my first attempt at using two heddles, and they worked wonderfully, so more of that and how to identify likely 4S patterns would be nice, too.
