I have a new warping board to go with my small "backstrap" (frame) loom.

 

 

 

 

This warping board is made from a section of 2x4 and 5/8" dowels. I used a drill press to drill 5/8" holes in the 2x4, then pounded the dowels with a hammer into the 2x4. They will NOT come out, as I had to saw off the pegs I needed to move.

 

I plan on making a lot of sample bands and this is the pefect length... 32" around the pegs.

I added the double cross to make it easier to insert the string heddles and the shed stick.

Great idea! I have a couple of pieces similar to this that I use for a warping board for my 4 shaft looms - the length depends on how far apart I can clamp the two pieces. Tools like this are also very easy to store, unlike the full size board.

I need to make one where I can get longer warps. I had a full sized warping board-the huge square thing with pegs all around but had to dismantle it when I moved here. It used to lean against the wall and I was always running into the pegs. I  just kept one end of it.

I can make longer warps but it is a very weird set up amongst several short boards. I should just make a whole new one on a broad, but longer, piece of wood like Sharon's. I want more than 36''.

Check out my full sized backstrap! I plan to tie a rope to the undernieth side of my couch, loop it up over the arm, and tie my backstrap to that. Then I can watch TV with the family while I weave!

Very clever setup, nicely done!

I think I'm going to draw some inspiration from that.

Still haven't made mine, although I did get to purchase some material. I think I'm going to call my first practice strap done, and work on my woven backstrap and the sticks to make a proper backstrap loom.
