Found in the book "The Best of Weaver's - Thick 'n Thin" page 38, there's an interesting color-and-weave effect based on log cabin.

Picture in your mind the Log Cabin results we've been working on.

Now, add the dimension of a color shift across the weave.  The text presents a two color and three color fabric done on a 2-shaft loom that looks like it could be duplicated on the RH loom.

While details are difficult to convey in this forum, the weave is created using multiple strands of warp (and weft) threaded and woven as one strand.  Each warp varies in the number of strands such that the warp thickness varies across the draft.  The weft is similar - with each picks for adjacent rows of blocks changing in thickness.  The three color version also changes the weft using varying numbers of each of the colors held together for a pick.  A fine 20/2 pearl cotton is used.

This example highlights one of the many elaborate looking effects possible using a simple loom!

There are other possible 2-shaft weaves presented in this book alternating thick and thin yarns for interesting results.

I will contact Interweave and ask if we can use that for a WAL and post a copy of the draft or pictures or whatever it is you have in the book that would help us understand and follow along.

Can we count on you to lead a WAL for this Steve?  It sounds like a variation of the Magic Steps project on WeaveZine

Looking over the Magic Steps project, it does look very similar to the details in "Thick 'n Thin" (which is an XRX publication - not Interweave).  Thanks for bringing the Magic Steps back to mind.  I found this awhile back... but it has since slipped from memory.

I'm working on finishing the Log Cabin WAL started a couple of weeks back.  Full time job keeps me of the loom...

I'm hunting for the "next" project, and one of these Log Cabin variations intreagues me.  Another possibility - which would "force" me to try something new - would be a two heddle project.  Ideas?

Hi Steve,

Don't think you are going to like my ideas for two heddles.  It's in one word, wait unitl after the holidays.  I have a sneaking suspicion there is one arriving for me as a gift.  There was a mysterious package delivered today from Earth Guild who just happened to be having a sale last week and I think, perhaps, the hints and notes I left worked <g>

I am interested in making mug rugs and calling them samples or is it the other way around.  I always get things like that confused and backwards.  Keeps the partner on his toes, laughing.
