I suppose I qualify as a cardboard loom weaver.  I was bored one day a work and, being a new and obsessed weaver, I realized I could make a loom.  So I cut a piece of cardboard from a box of printer paper, notched out all four sides and wove the only "fiber" I had- rubber bands.  I bent a paper clip to use as a shuttle.  The result is actually rather adorable although I don't really have a use for it.  I'll post a picture within the next couple of days.

Sounds like it might make a little non-slip pad for a vase or knick knack. Just goes to show, if you want to weave, there is always 'supplies' on hand!

That's a great idea- its pretty tiny but I could put a little bud vase on it.  It was a lot of fun imagining what "fiber" I had available from office supplies.  It makes me want to weave a set of desk objects, like a pen holder or something out of office supplies.

How creative!  You epitomize what a weaver is... obsessed with weaving together whatever fiber she (or he) can find to make some kind of cloth... for a purpose... or just for the joy of intertwining warp and weft!  You go girl!!!

Ooooh!  Right now I am wishing there were Ravelry-style buttons for "agree" and "love"!

I adore the idea of a set of desk objects!

Hello,

I just joined today and know absolutely nothing about weaving.  I think it is a fascinating craft, though, and would love to learn.

This sounds like the easiest way to start (using cardboard) without spending a lot of money, but I am one of those people that understands better when I can actually see a picture of something.  So I guess my question is:

Is there a picture of how you make a piece of cardboard into a loom and then, where do I go from there?

Thanks for any help you can provide :o)

Blessings,

Here's my second "cardboard" loom:  actually a piece of black foam board that I had laying around. I put slits every quarter inch and warped it with buttonhole thread.  I used the pointed end of a nail file to pick up the threads and make a shed. Then using a 14" crochet needle I could pull the warp through the shed.

Have a good day!

What a great way to use recycled material!  You are so clever!  Can't wait to see your finished project.

I have a 2nd little bag with a flap started.  This one WILL fit my camera.  That was my original plan, but the 1st one was too small.  I'm giving it to someone in our Guild's gift exchange tomorrow, so someone will have a cute bag for their cellphone.  I'm using yarn dyed with Koolaid on beige yarn, so the colors are nicely muted.

You can see it here on my project page.

Nice little bag on project page.

I like the design you worked into it.

Have a good day!

I'm just playing so far. Too busy with knitting Christmas presents to do much else. I work in a museum and am curating (that sounds grand. It's a tiny museum) an exhibit which opens in January. So I have little time on my hands, but after Christmas..... How many people are saying that already?
