Hi,

I'm Elizabeth. I own Stringtown Yarn & Fiber in Fort Smith. I saw there wasn't an Arkansas Group yet so I made one :) I have been weaving off and on for a few years, but didn't start using a floor loom until I went to the NWA Handweavers Guild's class last summer.

What's going on around Arkansas? I know the NWA Handweavers Guild's Summer Seminar is coming up next month in Bella Vista. I wish I was going again this year, but I can't make it. I'm hoping to be able to go next summer. I'd also like to go take some classes at John C. Campbell Folk School next year.

I'm planning on stocking some weaving yarn on cones for fall down at the shop so if you have a favorite fiber you've been looking for let me know. Also, Schacht has the "I Made It On My Schacht" contest going until September 1st. If anyone wants to enter and needs help getting nice pictures taken just let me know :)

Hi, I'm Kara. I really consider myself more of a fiber artist than specifically a weaver since I've only finished one woven piece. I like to weave on found objects like potato chip cans, and I made a frame loom that can be used with string heddles or for continuous weaving. I'm working on a cotton scarf in plain weave on the frame loom, a little bag on a gelatin box, and a rigid heddle design from recycled materials. I'd like to start going to guild meetings but it always seems to conflict with something.

I also knit, crochet, spin, dye, do beadwork and wirework, and occasionally sew. My preschool-age daughter gets most of my time, though!

HI!  I joined your group, but I don't live in Arkansas, yet!   Hubby and I plan to move there in the next 3-5 years to be near my folks in North Central Arkansas.  My grandparents and great-grandparents lived in Arkansas so it has always felt like home to me.

I am new to weaving but have done all sorts of fiber and yarn crafts over the years.   I have obtained 2 4H6T counterbalance looms in the last month and am cleaning and re-finishing one before I start using it.

I had tried to post a comment to the group but it seems to have gotten lost, so I hope this one saves.

I'm Sue from Creekview Crafts in NE Arkansas.  We raise llamas.  I have been weaving for many years, but get frustrated without a network to share ideas and problems.  This will be a nice website...if we only had highspeed out here:).  I travel to fiber festivals with my fiber/Ashford products/yarns, etc.  My DH is in Fort Smith alot...unfortuantely it is totally across the state so I don't get over there.

We will be moving to the general area of Mt. Home.   It sure is beautiful country there, but I'll have to readjust to the heat after living most of my life in the Seattle, Washington area.

Hi all,

I'm in NE Arkansas (Jonesboro) as well.  I also find it difficult without the support of other weavers in the area. We don't even have a yarn/fiber store and so I travel to Memphis when I can.

Currently I have a Schacht Wolf Pup loom that I love, but I'm saving up for a more sturdy floor loom and trying to decide if I want to stay with a jack loom or get a countermarche. Any thoughts anybody??

Hello all -

I just found this web site and group today - I live about 3 miles outside of Leslie.  I took weaving classes probably 25 years ago (when I lived in Kansas) - Had an inkle and a ridged heddle loom.  I have a floor loom (bought it about 10 years ago but have never woven on it), a table top LeClerc, and a couple of inkles.  I decided last weekend it was time to start weaving (again).  I consider myself a "beginner" - so I hope you all will have answers to questions!

Shade Tree Weaver

Hello all. Hopefully this group is still active. The last post was over two years ago. My wife and I visited the Ozark Folk Center over the Labor Day weekend when they were having a hands on weekend event. I discovered that weaving was very enjoyable and relaxing. So when I got home I ordered an Ashford 32" Rigid Heddle loom.
