I always wanted to build a warp-weighted loom, but with a 48" Cranbrook ("Louise"), a 52" hand made, and a 40" handmade in a small house, I just don't have the space. A woodworking friend traded me weaving lessons for what he calls "loom bears." My friend used and finished maple to match Louise, and rounded the egdes and ends as well. A solid polished aluminum rod from which a 250 pound man can do pull-ups and I am in business. I put 1 pound of sand into a zip lock bag, and then put that into another zip lock bag - 100 times. I put those bags into cloth bags I sewed from thrift store sheets, with a loop added.
I am in business!
