You all seemed excited to dye, so when do I get to see what you have done??  Don't you have red skeins or swatches to share?

But here is a snapshot of where I am.  If others haven't done their chips yet and don't want a spoiler (or to be potentially misled!), stop reading, :).  I've only laid out the chips for the 5R sheet very quickly earlier today and haven't had time to double check them, but my dye chip is looking like 5R 7/10.  I haven't checked to see if that's the expected result of this dye at 0.5% DOS.  I was amazed at how much time and fiddling it took to go through the whole process.  I was happy to escape with no big fiascos... I would say that my evenness was not perfect, so I have some work to do there.  The leftover silk has been re-skeined and I still need to do the 2nd wash down to see if my process was correct.

One question - how critical is it to use softened water for the wash down?  It would eliminate some fiddling if I could use hot water from the tap for the 50C portions.

And after all that....I can't wait to do more!

Here are my two samples - 1 in silk paj and 1 in silk organza.   My silk paj I marked as 5R 6.5/10.  My silk organza I marked as 5R 6/11.  Here is the photo:

I have 15 family members arriving the first of next week so forged ahead and put my red chips on the 5R page (they are removable if I did them incorrectly).

Looking good there , girls.

How did the dyeing go?

Looks like the chips are in the right places, you can do as many pages as you want in the Munsell kit.

Others pay attention here. These two pieces of silk were dyed together-Anne, in the same jar? - and are not the same color; the organza is darker. The organza maybe slightly darker to begin with but the difference is usually greater. China silk is a reeled silk, total degummed.  The organza is also a reeled silk but it retains some sericin and that is what makes it stiff.  The sericin is also a protien so also dyes with the dyes, particularly with acid dyes.  If you degum the organza after it is dyed it will lighten and be more the color of the china silk.  I have some samples of that somewhere, I see if I can find them.

Great job guys! i got my stock made today, and am soaking my skein tonight - cannot wait to get started after seeing your pics!

I did dye both pieces in the same jar.  I  want a record of each color on both types of silk as I use both in my work.  I've been dyeing with Lanaset dyes.  The difference is greater in deeper DOS dye baths.
