Good morning all,

I'm getting to know my new to me Macomber piece by dirty piece.  As I was cleaning the shafts, I noticed that some of them have two holes drilled next to each other where they can accept the hook on the sash chain.  Should these shafts be placed in a certain location, ie as shafts 1-3, 8-10, or somewhere in between?

Next, there are cords stapled onto all of the beams (the two sectional back beams and the front beam) and many of them have been cut leaving hardly any of the same length, how should these be replaced & with what?

There is a "mystery piece" (to me) mounted on the frame that surrounds the jacks.  It is a black metal piece that is hinged about 1-2" above the frame so that it will fold forward toward the front of the loom and when fully extended it reaches back at an angle to the top sectional beam.  It also has two appendages--one is more of a square bar, while the other is more of a wire hook.

I would greatly appreciate any information that could be sent my way.

The mystery piece is the lamm depressor--I had never seen one before and I have a feeling it will be handy.

I will be running to Lowe's this evening to get some sort of strong twine that doesn't stretch :-) to use for now.  I've been considering an apron but have never used one.  I'll check the cloth vs string apron thread for more information.

Holes in frames--I have 10 shafts, 14 treadles.

Thank you so much for guiding me to the Restoration thread.  I have a feeling I'll be using it frequently.
