This linen band or tape was woven to finish the cut hems of a handwoven wool Sasanid robe. This project is based on The Metropolitian Museum's analysis of a 7th C Persian Riding Coat. The coat/robe description " patches of fabric in plain weave of undyed linen to reinforce armpits and hemline". So she specifically wove a linen band/tape to finish and reinforce the hems on her coat.
