Greetings from Spook of the Loom!

Well I am going to start on another demon today. I am going to make a baby blanket for the first time. It is for my Great Grand Son that will be here some time in Jan. So I have some time , but mostly I have just made rugs and a few purses so this will be a challange for me. Wish me luck!

Nice to hear from you! You both sound like you've been busy...

I'll post some more pics from Weave Wider! soon. I've enjoyed weaving wider so far (more than I thought!). Ellen did say (in an earlier post) that weaving a wide piece of fabric was good fun...She's right!

My buried loom remains buried, as I was out of town most of this past week -- but I'm ba-a-ack... so you may soon be seeing frightening photos of the Zombie Loom and everything it's been keeping in the shadows.

There are some big spiders down there.  Big ones.  And then there's the stuff the cat tucked into the dark corners....  {{shudder}}

I've had some good success trying my hand at overshot. I've just finished the fifth of six sections on the sampler. If I have any warp left after I finish the 6th section I'm going to do a separate piece that I can use somewhere in the house.

Then, when that is off the loom, if there is still any time in the month, I'm going to head to Home Depot with my list of parts for the Franken-loom.

Also, I wanted to say that I've been enjoying this communal venture. It's nice to know other people are working on their personal bugaboos and getting some learning and accomplishments under their belts. Yay for all of us!!

Thanks so much! I got my fring twister prize today and well I'm not sure where to say Thanks so this will have to do. Thank You Weavolution and Webs for the nice prize! I will have to try it on the baby blanket I am weaving now!

 This am I am having problems posting my baby blanket progress to My Projects so I thought I would try it here. If this doesn't work I'll try again tomorrow

Well that worked! This is the baby blanket that will be my first non rug project. The blanket is for my future Great Grand Son.

Well that worked too. The blanket is about 1/2 done. I don't know how much shrinkage to expect but I will learn. I'm at 18 inches now.

I love the blanket colors. So nice. I had to "un-weave" a couple inches of my pickup-stick project because my math was off. I'm not on to the second placemat and trying to decide between leno lace, brooks bouquet or danish medallions -- I really like those medallions. I guess I'll do some pickup stick rows before I do anything else.

26 inches and gaining! I have time today and I would like to get the weaving part done. Then I can work on finishing. The real motovator for me is the burning desire to get back to rugs and to rewarp the loom. I got some new colors of warp and want to see what I can do with them. This blanket is going to be real nice but I so love those rugs!

it is COLD in Oregon this am. We had a fire in the stove last night.(we have wood heat)

My daughter has requested I make one for a friend of hers. I have never woven a baby blanket, although I've crocheted several. It looks like cotton. Is that right?

I love the blues and white together - very light and crisp looking!

 Yes the baby blanket is cotton yarn and cotton/poly warp. At the suggestion of a friend that weaves a LOT . She said to use something that will stand up to washing as it is to be used not just looked at. Peaches and Cream cotton is the name of it and it comes in big cones at Wal Mart. I know not your fancy yarn shop but it is available . They did not have a lot of color choices but I like this multi blue wit the warp that is natural and brown and blue.

 And here is another FIRST. I got my husband to try his hand at weaving on the blanket. After all it isn't every day you get to have a great grand son. So now when the blanket it done it will have been made for him by both his great grand mother and great grand father! This is the first time my husband has touched the loom to weave. He has made parts for me and helped me warp but never wove. I hope he will continue.

That is so nice that your grandson will have a blanket that you both "had a hand in." I've made several woven items with Peaches and Cream and it does wash and dry and wears very well. I just made a blanket for my niece's baby boy due in November. I used the acrylic baby yarn in blues and browns so it would be light yet warm enough for Maine winters. I threw it in the washer and dryer and it is so soft everyone just can't stop petting it. Best of luck to you and your new grandson.
