Here in the Northern Hempisphere we are (hopefully) moving into fall. It has been a crazy last week or so here in Texas and Louisiana and now in parts east as the remanants of Harvey move across the south. We are eying Hurrcan Irma with some trpeidation. Where I am in Waco, we just got a couple of days rain but my heart goes out to friends to the south. Meanwhile I have friends and family in the rocky Mountain west and on the northwest coast who are dealing with massive fires. Keep all those around the world in your thoughts and prayers who are dealing with the wrath of Mother Nature be it here in the States or the monsoon rains in India and Nepal, or the mudslides in Sierra Leone. It has not been a good month.

Jopefully, on the weaving front things are going better. I have not started weaving again but I am busily spinning and knitting. I have set a goal to be back on the loom by Halloweave. I love seeing the projects people are working on and am jealous of all the wonderful workshops and conferences everyone has been attending. Take care everyone and Weave on.

Golds and browns, lopi wool, double width twill

After 13 months off the big looms due to a nerve injury in my leg that won't let me sit on the bench, I have figured out that I can weave standing. I raised my Maccomber 3", tied on a Harrisville Highland warp and this is the first of two blankets I am doing for wedding presents.  I am thrilled to be weaving again and mostly happy with the blanket except that it is shedding like crazy.  The weft is Lopi and having "Over fulled" to disasterous results in the past,  I set my front loader to agitate 5 minutes and then soaked it half an hour and did a rinse and spin cycle.  What I'm reading says agitation could have done that and I should rewash in the bathtub but I'm feeling leery.  Will shake and brush tomorrow.

Have kept my sanity through Rebecca Mezoff's online tapestry courses and doing tiny tapestries that I can hold on my lap sitting in bed/couch.  Life really isn't the same without weaving. Cheers from California where we have no current natural disasters.

I got back to the diamond wool twill today. I only got one repeat woven, but I agree with fiberassociations, life is better with weaving!

I look forward to seeing more of what you all are weaving.

If you spin, consider joining our Spinzilla Team! I also hope several people here will consider hosting a Halloweave House!

im on holiday in England and today we visited the Quarry Bank Mill in Styal.  I met one of the weavers and had a lovely chat.  Just now connected on social media.   The world really is a very small place!

It's firewood stacking season here in NH; seems like there's always something to keep me away from the looms but this task results in sore muscles, including in my hands, so mostly what I'm doing is looking with longing during breaks. We got 5 cords this year as the winters have been very long even if not as frigid and last year was the first year we ended up with barely 1/4 cord left. The leaves are already turning, though, and I'm really looking forward to participating somehow in HalloWeave for the first time. We have a fabulous Wool Arts Tour in the Monadnock region Columbus Day Weekend coming right up, too. It's hosted by farms, one of which is right down the street from me. So September is kind of a "limbo" month where we're getting ready for those cold mornings when the leaves seem to be lighting their own fires and opening up the bins of woolens to wear and wearing those new shawls and scarves. A local artisan published instructions for her handwoven tartan mittens--yes, that's right, woven! At least the fabric is. Available at Webs;I downloaded the pattern recently at last and hope to have a pair or two made this year as Christmas gifts for my family who are very proud of their Scots heritage. Should be fun! So, I'd better get back to the wood so I can get back to my looms and Weave on!

I've gotten in tiny little bits of weavig in the last week. I'm still working on warps for the beginning weaving class I start teaching at the end of this month. I still have 2 looms to warp. I have to weave off one warp to get anything on the last loom, so this scarf that has been lingering is going to get done! :)

It's Sept 16th, and that's all I can say.

we (and I use the term 'we' to mean Kerstin) has her AVL set up ready for the tours tomorrow and Friday.  We will go into Vaxjo for the day on Saturday.  I have a couple of people I would like to meet irl, but this is a very large event, so we will see!

Can't believe it's already the 20th. I finally got our wood stacked; and of course the nice, cool weather changed to hot and steamy for the duration. I was relieved to get back to the loom yesterday and get started on a warp that needs to be finished before I need that loom to demonstrate on the 8th October at the Wool Arts Tour. Has anyone ever demonstrated by actually warping a loom in public?  I've been hashing out ideas for something to weave but wondered along the way if it might be novel for people to see the whole process of dressing a loom. I doubt I can manage that this year as I can only demonstrate one day instead of two but maybe next year I'll try it...or at another event.

is over.  I managed to meet both people I had hoped to plus a few others I knew from conferences in North America.

Had a good look round the vendor hall and exhibits and did some shopping.  ;).  I'm quite sure Canada Customs would not believe me if I said I bought nothing!   One supplier was not selling directly but taking orders and shipping after so I bought LOTS in order to make it worth their while to ship to Canada.  Besides, it's really hard to find dyed linen...unless you pay a very large price...and this was on 'sale' for the conference.  Not to be passed up!   Or so I keep telling myself.  ;)

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the site and have a question. I bought a Leclerc Dorothy loom on Ebay and I am looking for a good resource on getting started with this loom. I find it a little scary and am not sure where to start. It has all it's parts and seems to be in fairly good shape but it isn't new! Thanks!
