One month of the year is behind us. How is everyone coping with winter/summer, depending on which side of the equator you live on? Central Texas has actually had some winter-like temperatures this year and I am loving it. Cooler temps makes me want to work with fiber. Hope everyone is being productive. We have been very quiet in here lately and I am taking that as a sign that looms, knitting needles, spinning wheels, etc., are keeping busy. Weave on!

I was having some differential take up concerns with my current project. The relaxed warp pairs were bunching up in a bit of an alarming manner when weaving. However, when I lifted them, they seemed to straighten out. The next problem I noticed was the relaxed pair sometimes interlaced when they weren't supposed to. I ended up weighting them separately, and that has seemed to do the trick.

I think you found a good solution.  And this problem occurs even faster on a small loom which doesn't have a great depth.  But you should be able to weave to the end with these warp ends weighted.  If you find the floats are looking too tight, you might have to lessen the weight on your bar.

Perfect solution, Sally!

I am weaving most days, but not quite back to daily yet! I have many projects on the go though!

Tablet weaving in silk, exploration samples in wool, herringbone in wool, and a bit of plain weave handspun!

I threaded about a third of my handspun warp last night! Yay!

Today I am working on sleighing the reed for furhter color and twill study warp. I am going to use this warp to do some sett sampling. This is a type of sampling, I have thus far neglected. I am looking forward to seeing how Harrisville Shetland weaves up at 20 epi. Then I will spread it out to 10 or 12 epi. I have already woven with the recommended 15 epi for balanced cloth. The balanced cloth is stiffer than I would want for a very good drape. I am curious to see if 12 or 10 epi provide the best drape for this yarn.

Our spring guild challenge: Weaver's Poker. My five card hand was Tencel, Smooth, Complement, Grey & Ms&Os. Since we just did Ms&Os last year for our guild challenge, that is the card I am tossing back to the dealer.

I am planning a sample before sampling, and trying to collect yarns that I think will work. I have a Plan B in mind if Plan A bombs. Thankfully, I have a ton of Tencel in the stash.

It's a beautiful day here in North CArolina!  I'm now the happy owner of an 8 harness dorothy loom and a number of weavettes.  Not been weaving on them yet, but I did just finish a darling little handknit newborn sweater.  I'd like to do more weaving on the portable looms as they travel so well, picked up a little tapestry loom and am thrilled at my growing collection of small looms!  someday I'll be home more to work on the larger looms, my husband has requested a large walking rug loom next!

buying stuff certainly counts! Sounds like some great buys. I have been knitting to get a commission done so everything else has been on the back burner.

Weaving again. The last few months have been mostly consumed with moving looms to the basement, painting, refinishing the kitchen floor, etc. Luckily I have young folks to do it, so I get to supervise. But after a few long months I have an Opphamta warp on the drawloom, and a lovely fan reed project going on my Berga Savonia. Other than these projects I did a quick round of M's and O's towels and a thick and thin shawl using long-eyed heddles for the bumpy moguls. Glad to have the drawloom set up.

I started winding the Poker Challenge Tencel warp to sample for the samples, and the excitement just wasn't there. I stopped after less than an inch.

I went back into the softward for plan B. I printed out the draft and left it sitting around to ponder. I can tell already I am more excited thinking about this option than my first plan, even tho' I had Plan A all worked out.

I sure wish I were faster at this design process!

Sometimes the 'mistakes' are a fun thing, sometimes not so much. Sigh. Hope Plan B is awesome.

Thanks for fixing the glitch, Erica! folks in the FB weaving group were missing being able to get on.

Erica J

Shawn, you're welcome! It is good to know at least some of the people who use the FB groups use Weavolution as well! That darn glitch happened at 2 AM our time, Murphy's Law right?!

After I fixed the glitch, had coffee, and was more awake I finished winding the warp for the OSU scarf I have to weave. One of my colleagues is an OSU alum and bought my promise of a handwoven scarf at our fundraising auction. This would be the same colleague who left countless OSU stickers when he moved out of the classroom I was moving into. He has more university-related items than anyone I know. Soon he will have a custom handwoven OSU scarf to go with all the rest. :)

Erica,

Never fails that things pop up at the most inoportune times! Yes, lots of folks I think use both platforms. Sometimes I don't recognize the folks here because of different names ;-)

Ohio State? When I was on faculty in Ohio, there were some very rabid (avid?) fans.

Thanks again,

Shawn
