Here is my terrible photo of a 10 yard piece of Black 'C' at 10% DOS.  It is much better than the photo indicates.  Pretty level, although I can't do the 6" X 6" levelness test as I am not ready to cut it.  Linda - you'll cringe at the incorrect exposure, but I am not a photographer.

Anne is it black, almost black, black with a blue(red) tinge?

Anne, the auto exposure control in your camera wants to make the majority of your photo into a "medium gray" exposure, so that's why your black looks gray.  It's been overexposed!  If you have some manual settings on your camera, you can use them to override and get a correct photo.  Let me know what camera you've got and I can probably give you some tips.

It is a neutral black.  I would not call it jet black, but I suspect it is as black as paj can get.  It is the black I will use as my 'go to' black.  (As valuable to me as a neutral beige.)  It is actually slightly deeper than the trial I did last week.  I gave it the Munsell notation of N1.

The camera I'm using is a Canon PowerShot Pro1.  I am using the 'Av' option so the flash wouldn't fire.  I had natural north light as the light source.  Time to consult the camera's manual.

or were you lucky the first time?

I tried all 3.  The Black 'C' is by far my favorite on the paj.  I can take photos of them and post them.  I also did the neutrals and am glad to have them, too.

Now for that piece of nature to match.....
