I am reconditioning a 24" Baby Mac for my retirement home. I want to freshen the heddles and make the weight as light as possible and still be able to move the heddles on and off the bars easily.

1. I really like the inserted eye heddles that I put on my big Mac. I'm wondering about the weight pushing down toward the back of the treadle on the baby rather than the ease on just pushing down on the big Mac.

2. Would it be possible to put inserted eyes on shafts 1,3,5, and 7 and texsolv on the even bars, or would they hang unevenly? I'm thinking, once again about the weight.

Texsolv heddles are very nice, but will have one negative for you - the lack of weight will make those shafts tend to "float" more easily.

It is generally not recommended to install Texsolv on rising shed looms because the loom maker counts on the weight of the metal heddles to bring the shafts down after being raised, and to keep unraised shafts from rising when a new shed is formed. Often, if the weaver prefers the Texsolv heddles, it is necessary to weight the shaft frames - six of one, half dozen of the other.

Thanks, Sara, I'll stick with the inserted eye heddles, then. Mimi

Schacht says not to use Texsolve on their looms, but I have heard of people that have with great success.  I would not mix types of heddles; one or the other.  I have both, and I prefer threading inserted eye, but my favorite looms have Texsolve and are very light to treadle.
