I'm thinking of buying an inkle loom. I card weave now, but would like to do both. I'd like a loom that I could also card weave on. Would a mini inkle loom be ok for this? Thanks!

I can tell you that an Ashford Inklette is too small for cardweaving, unless you use very tiny cards.  I've been drooling over the Gilmore Wave - it seems to have great tension and plenty of space.

I purchased the Heritage Inkle Loom from The Loom Merchant almost a year ago and use it for both inkle and card/tablet weaving. It is a finely constructed loom and highly recommended. Additionally the ordering process and high of customer service provided was exemplary.

I have a little Palmer Inkle loom, which I love for its portability, lap-use, and makes bands plenty long for belts and purse straps.  I'm interested in card weaving and I wondered the same thing about using the little loom.  Someone suggested I use my rigid heddle for card weaving -- I haven't yet, but I'm interested in others' experiences.

I have used my rigid heddle for card weaving and it works pretty good. I think I'm just going to stick with that for now, because I think if I bring another loom in the house my husband will move out, lol!

I purchased my inkle loom from Palmer, who sell at Pennsic (a medieval war in PA). The one I bought has a 6-yard capacity, and has enough room for card-weaving. It's solid oak, and I believe it was (about four years ago) around $110.

I'm new to inkle looms also, and have been searching for some answers myself.
I want to beable to do band weaving, but I thought if I am going to spend some money, than why not find a loom that I can do card weaving and some length.
I'm hearing some different kinds of looms here.   CAn anyone tell me the difference and why they prefer one over the other?

The loom weaves about 2" wide max, and 2 yards long warped at full capacity. It has a paddle that adjusts the tension as you progress with your weaving.

Althought I haven't actually tried it, I think the "active" space at the front this loom between the key pegs is too small for regular-sized cardweaving.

However, this loom is GREAT for travel, goes through TSA no problem, and fits into an "over the shoulder" computer bag or stachel (...along with a beverage and your sack lunch...ask me how I know! ;-)

I used to take my card weaving into the airports, but I couldn't do it once seated on the plane as there was no place to tension the warp. The Ashford Inklette is still weavable, even in coach, when the person in front of you reclines their seat! If you want to weave bands while doing A LOT of traveling, I can highly recommend the Ashford Inklette.

Well I went ahead and bought a Schacht inkle and I'm very happy with it. I figure if I want to card weave I'll use the rigid heddle.

I was looking on the web at pictures of this loom and it looks really cool. I'm thinking of trying to build one. Did you build yours or did you buy it already built?

Weaving Today recently had a free E-book on making your own inkle loom with cpvc pipe.  It was from the March 2009 issue of Handwoven.  I got the makings from Home Depot for under $20 and made one in about 2 hours.  That includes warping it up.  It will only take a little over a two yard warp, but there is plenty of space to put cards in the front in place of the heddles.  It is tensioned by  threaded rods partly inside the pipe.

I could send you a picture if you inquire.   Don't see a place to post a picture in replies to an original post.

Oh yes, I downloaded that e-book. I will look that over too. Thanks!
