from Central America.  Some one in our group tonight was wearing  a stunning dark textile with little white dots through out.  It is hand woven, warp-faced, cotton with indigo dye.  It was too dark to get an overall picture of the effect but I did get some details with the cell phone.

This had been woven as a wide rectangle , maybe 3' x 6-7', with twisted fringes at both ends, maybe a rebozo.

As you can see there are medium indigo sections and dark indigo sections.  The medium indigo dominates and is unevenly dyed giving a rich visual texture to those areas.  The dark indigo is used for narrower stipes.  And then some threads with indigo and white create the eye catching dots.  The structure is warp-faced, the thread is a fairly fine cotton.  I have a theory that the threads that make the white dots, and I did not notice any pattern in the dots, are left over ikat threads from other projects that have then been used here. The ikat threads have been used singlely and strategically placed in the stripes.

I love these random white dots!
