I have two AVL PDL's.  I have broken cables on both looms.  Is that common with these looms?  On my 48" I have broken all 3 dobby cables at least once.  On my 60" I can see that one cable has already been spliced and I broke on of the treadle cables.  They are very expensive, but I have been replacing them myself with vinal coated airplane cable from Home Depot.  So frustrating.  I am hoping that now that all the cables are new, I'll be good to go for a while.  Luckily my hubby is getting to be excellent at adjusting the cable lengths to get everything working right.

I haven't broken a cable in years but yes, when I first got the loom I did break cables.  Hopefully things will settle down for you now.

cheers,

I, too, had 2 broken cables in the first (maybe 2? 3?) years. I replaced them with braided polyester cord, to save time (I'm in Sweden). I intended to orde new ones, but the repairs worked vey well. They are still there 10 yrs later, still working ...

Hello,

We recently moved and I had to rebuild my 48" PDL for the 4th time. I've never had a problem before but this time I cannot get my loom working and AVL has given up trying to help me so I thought I would try a users support group. Thanks in advance for your time.

The spring inside the drum is fine; AVL sold me a new bearing but that has not fixed my problem. When the weight is released, it will only hold momentarily and then when it starts falling, the lower cloth storage roller pops out. I am unable to advance my warp so weaving is impossible.  Also, when I raise the weight with the handle, the cord does not retract onto the cloth storage drum; I must walk around and manually wind the cord back onto the drum.

Has anyone had a similar problem? Any suggestions for me?

I eagerly await some suggestions.  Thanks again!
