Hello everyone! We hope you had a wonderful holiday & that 2013 has a peaceful start! While your calendars are fresh, take a moment to check out all our classes & events for 2013. What new skills and techniques would you like to learn in 2013?

Here is a peek at our schedule for weaving classes in January, February & March but of course, we also have Drop Spindle Spinning, Intermediate Spinning, Beginning Knitting, & Beginning Rug Hooking!

Rigid Heddle Weaving for Beginners on the Cricket: (Saturday February 9th, 10AM - 3PM:$85, Materials Included RW020913) Attendees receive a special price to purchase the loom they are weaving on in class! In this class you will learn everything you need to become a basic weaver. You will learn about the technical aspects, how to make a warp, dress a loom, and start perfecting your technique. We will also go over problems you might encounter and how to fix them. You will be weaving two place-mats. The cost of this class includes instruction, handouts, use of a Schacht Cricket RH Loom & the yarn. All you need to bring is the excitement of learning.  Class duration: 6 hours / Max enrollment: 6  / Fee - $85 includes use of a Cricket loom and materials / Instructor – Constance Hall 

 

An Introduction to 4-shaft Weaving: (Saturday March 2 & Sunday March 3 , 9-5PM: $260, Plus Materials IW030213) If you've always wondered about weaving, but had no idea where to start, this is the class for you. We'll go through every step in the process, from choosing yarns and winding the warp, to getting it on the loom, weaving it off, and wet-finishing. We'll produce a sampler first, and then repeat the whole process again and plan the first "real" project, a scarf, and weave it. Along the way you'll learn to read drafts, the symbolic language that weaving is written in, and learn the names of a whole host of odd objects! Weaving can be a rather expensive hobby, as the equipment is significant; see if you like it before you take the plunge. All materials are provided. Please bring your small workshop loom or we can provide one for a $25 rental fee.  Please bring note-taking supplies & a pair of scissors.Class duration: 2 full (8 to 9 hour days) / Max enrollment: 6 / Fee: $260 plus materials (@$26) - Loom Rental $25.00 / Instructor: Nancy Reid

Tapestry Weaving Workshop with Joanne Hall  - Sign up deadline is February 11! - Workshop takes place April 12 - 14, 2013.
Tapestry weaving on a frame loom - Tapestry is a weaving technique which lets you express your ideas and to be very creative. Weaving tapestry on a frame loom is fun and very portable. We will begin with weaving basic tapestry techniques and after learning to weave curved shapes, we will weave following a cartoon. Some small woven tapestries (including one from Sweden) will be interesting for you to see and perhaps inspire you.
Materials and the loom are provided for your use in the class. No weaving experience necessary.
Friday
: Warping the frame loom and beginning a sampler. We will weave several stripe techniques and then vertical shapes of squares and rectangles.We will begin weaving the diagonal.
Saturday: Practice the diagonal shapes and weaving a curve. We will also cover making string heddles, using tapestry bobbins and make a cartoon.
Sunday: We will weave following a cartoon.

Class duration: Friday 10AM - 4PM, Saturday 10AM - 3PM & Sunday 10AM to 3PM / Max enrollment: 12 / Skill Level: Beginner /

Materials to bring:
Scissors, tape measure or ruler, pencil or pen, black felt tipped pen.
Fee: $325 (Includes: Use of Loom, Warp: 12/6 cotton rug warp, Weft: Faro wool yarn & Blunt pointed needle with large eye.)
