Here's a link to a good conversation which went on in the general weaving forum...too rich not to link here for future reference!  Enjoy!  Deb Mc

This seemed a little esoteric for the general forum, so I thought I'd post here.   I was intrigued by Sally Ogren's reference to the Complete Book of Bertha Hayes Patterns under the 10 books thread. My search brought up the Smithsonian institution Libraries combined catalog.  From there, I followed the link from the subject hand weaving -- patterns to this rather nice list.  You can see all the sub-categories of "hand weaving" here, but it is a bit chaotic, with geographic designations intermixed with topical ones.  Still, makes for interesting browsing.

I was immediately taken with the reference to John Becker and Donald Wagner. Pattern and loom: a practical study of the development of weaving techniques in China, Western Asia and Europe. Copenhagen : Rhodos, 1987 and it's supplement "enlarged weaving drafts".  Anybody have this, or have heard of it?

2009 corrected "edition" in PDF available as a free download. How cool is that.  BTW, right-click and download the file. Don't try to open it on your computer. It will take forever.

Becker's book is worth downloading! After you pass one's beginning stage it is one of the books one should be familiar with as one learns more advanced weaving and appreciate other culture's looms.
