What is comparable to using two heddles, is it similar to a 4 harness? Probably a stupid question, but I had a 2 harness floor loom and it operates the same as my Kromski Harp, so I'm wondering what 2 heddles compares to.
Thanks to you both! I appreciate your time more than you know. If I were one of the old hands at this, I would tire of newbie questions, but people here seem to really enjoy answering. bless you
I keep seeing people refer to wet finish, is there a place it's described? I have a diagram of the twisted fringe, unclear on number of strands. Since it's sock yarn, would I be using just two together?
thanks for the link! I hadn't realized there was one, that's where I belong. When you do the twisted, is it tied as well? It's wool and bamboo, so I'll be using SOAK or Eucalan. (handwash)
Cindy, yes you had the right answer! I didn't have the heddle in the neutral position while while tightening the warp. Seems to be staying in place now, and I was able to put the loom back to a slight angle. Thanks to all who responded! (I'll get this yet)
I definitely had it in the neutral position while warping. I set the stand at an angle to weave comfortably sitting down, this is when the heddle wants to fall forward. I've now put it back to completely level. What is the purpose of a stand that adjusts if you can't use it that way? I did try to "settle" the heddle back against the wood to rest with not much luck. It will unexpectly just fall forward.
hope my photo is attached
I'm feeling really stupid at the moment, because I knew the Kromski name was to face forward. When you mentioned it, I checked, and it's facing the back. One of those duh moments, cause I did know better. However, I don't see where that changes anything, there's nothing on the heddle that would change what's happening if it were in the correct position. I'm waiting on my battery to charge, would just figure it went dead when I needed it. Posting a photo the minute it gets up to speed.
Yes, I have it warped and have started weaving. We assembled it exactly like the directions picture with, there's nothing to hold it in the up position, right? I'll take a pic in the morning.
Well, you fooled me!
I'm not seeing your photos? Will there be a knitting forum? On my needles right now are socks and a shawl.
Bookmarked the page, thanks!
I went with a Kromski Harp and stand. After having a Union 36, I just knew I needed a smaller loom, so am starting here. I also ordered a rigid heddle book from Amazon. I am so intimidated by you all with your harnesses and the terminology used I need a guide. I think fibers are what concerns me the most, I have no idea what to buy, hoping the book will clear that up.
how are they hard on the hands? I'm new remember, and apologies to Donna for intruding on her topic.
I just checked out the site you mention, and found a loom there that close to where I live. Restored, but shows some rust on heddles, is that a huge problem? Also, it's a Structo frm Dick Blick in the 60's . Any thoughts?
I had no idea something so nice could be made on a loom such as that. Both are beautiful pieces!
