Started mine yesterday as well. Thank you for the inspiration! Happy New Year!
Post your progress along the way.
Tommye, this is beautiful and fun to see the different ways you used to get numbers!
I'm enjoying using soumak for the numbers... so much easier!
3/2012 looks like another great month Tommye, and beginning of April as well. Your Tapestry Diaries are so nicely designed in color and composition. Tips for being able to do this? It would seem hard to keep the continuity going in a design when just one small part is woven a day.
My wrist is almost better and I've gotten the go ahead to start tapestry again , slowly. ( it's been since November!) Maybe I'll be able to start with May , definately June , yeah :)
Glad to hear you're almost mended, Cathie!
Thanks for the nice comment about the tapestry diary color/composition. There isn't any trick, really. Other than that repetition will give unity. Theere's repetition of the day parts, whether squares or rectangles. Then there's repetition of use of color. When I was doing the other two whole-year ones, I was sort of thinking about light/dark and/or bright/dull when selecting for the day--and what I could see of the past. Once things began to wind up on the cloth beam, of course, I couldn't really watch it anymore but what I was doing that I could see had been built on the earlier developments.
This year, since I'm responding to weather and/or time of day -- the black background ones done at night, for instance, the repetition of many types of blues, blue grays and occasional black will give a coherence to the overall piece, I believe.
Yes Tommye , I can see the Value of repetition now that you bring it up. The white numbers, browns, strategically/ intuitively? placed. I know our eye is more pleased by odds than evens. But you struck on something I found unifying too, a theme, when you talk about responding to the weather and/or the time of day. Which reminds me too, that while it's good to study my design books, it's just as important to take a deep breath and look at the world around me. There's plenty of design, composition and themes out there too. You're an inspiration. Thanks!
Started May's Diary today! So far so good with the wrist!
Please post photos as you progress with the tapestry diary.
Love the 4th of July, Tommye ! So patriotic and celebratory! Happy Holliday!
Fireworks tonight at the university... always a fun event.
Hope you have a good one.
Inspiring to see yours build Tommye! All the months lined up in a row make me anticipate the end of the year for the grand cutting off! But I guess we have a few months between now and then :)
Which loom are you working on that allows you to put on a long enough warp for a year?
I'm working on a Tissart loom. I've got about a 3 yard warp on it so should have enough to do the rest of the year... it's about 50-60" long right now. The one I did in 2010 was about 80" long and I expect that this one will be about that length, as well.
Tommye, it sure is fun to see your diary unrolled. I always love to see how your work progresses.
Beautiful Tommye ! How many Tapestry Diaries have you done? I would love to see them all exhibited somewhere!
This is my fourth full year. Also did one month in 2008; that one was what got me started on the year-long attempts.
I've got an article in Tapestry Weaver, the British Tapestry Group publication, about the tapestry diary work, by the way. It's in the latest issue.
Yours is developing beautifully, Cathie!
Thank you Tommye! Can't wait until year's end to get them mounted and see them all together!
impressive - love it!
Endorph, I appreciate your comment.
What a marvelous project!
I've enjoyed the tapestry diary process for several years. Got started on 2013 this morning!
