Resurrection

April 24-26, 2015

Ponce City Market, Atlanta

Flux Projects is thrilled to announce Resurrection, a new project with artist Nick Cave, which will take place at Ponce City Market April 24 – 26, 2015. Cave is a sculptor, dancer and performance artist best known for his Soundsuits, elaborate, wearable sculptures that come to life and make noise through movement and performance. Cave will work with local choreographer T. Lang, assistant professor of dance at Spelman College and artistic director of T. Lang Dance, who will select the performers and choreograph a section of the work.

Resurrection is a “call to arms, head and heart” for Cave initiates—the lead characters of this work. Through the performance, they are prepared mind, body and spirit to face the forces that stand in the way of selfhood, to enter a world over which they have complete control. Initiates become warriors of their own destiny. In this two-part performance, dancers are joined by actors, musicians and a spoken word artist.

This groundbreaking performance will take place in the central food hall of Ponce City Market. Ponce City Market is a historic mixed-use community hub focused on artisanal food, fashion, residential lofts, and tech office. Located in the Old Forth Ward along the Atlanta BeltLine, this building once served as a Sears, Roebuck & Co distribution center and is now the largest adaptive reuse project in the Southeast. Steeped in history, Ponce City Market has a handful of early adopters open and will continue to open organically with the main food hall and retail opening in Spring of 2015.

There will be two performances each day Friday – Sunday, April 24 – 26. Performances will be free and open to the public: Friday 4 and 7 pm; Saturday 3 and 7 pm; and Sunday noon and 3 pm.

A Patron Party will be held on Thursday, April 23, at 7 pm. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Nick Cave and watch a special dress rehearsal. Tickets will go on sale in 2015.
