Hi,

I am new to weaving and this may seem like a silly question but when I am throwing my shuttle, it seems to keep dropping between the warp threads.  It's usually on just one peddle, the others seem to be fine when I make a pass.  Is it from how I am throwing?  Is it a tension problem?  Just can't figure this out.  If anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

If you have a countebalance or a countermarch loom, you can tighten your warp tension and that should make a difference. 

If you have a jack loom, tightening your warp tension makes it hard to weave. Jack looms usually hve a standing beater and it will have a ledge called a shuttle race at the bottom of the reed.  Place your shuttle on the shuttle race before throwing it.

Then, watch how you throw the shuttle.  You need to keep it flat, parallel to the floor.  And, keeping it close to the reed often helps.  So, you then just need practice.

It could be a tension issue. When you depress that one peddle do you see any threads hanging down? If you do you have a tension problem. Like Joanne said, if this is a jack loom is the warp sitting on the bottom of the reed touching the shuttle race? Lots of questions, waiting to see your reply.

I weave on jack looms most of the time. Tightening the tension can be the solution on a jack loom. After I make sure I am throwing the shuttle on the shuttle race straight I would try that. When I was beginning I had a problem throwin straight with my dominant hand. So one way would be fine and the other way pick the shuttle off the floor and fix the throw. :(

Since it is only happening on only one treadle, I would check the shed on that treadle. I seem to remember having this problem myself and I found that when the problem treadle was pushed, the bottom threads were not even with one another. This creates "waves" for the shuttle and can result in the shuttle flying rather widely and taking a dive out the bottom!
