Looks like the formulas need more blue, I think they were written for the discontinued bright blue and you used the National Blue. They need to be tweeked for the available blue. They mostly look like they need more blue to be what they were supposed to be; black, blue grey....   Probably have to increase the Navy part.

Hey Anne in England, did you use bright blue in your formulas that gave you black?

I'm using something called Royal Blue 483 - i think it's the national blue y'all are talking about.

Donna, your blue gray looked blue gray, can you please tell me what your formula was (which blue do you use?)

Thanks!

On the plus side, the gray i got is so pretty, i'm keeping the formula - i'm not a gray person, but can hardly take my eyes off it.  : )

I think the only formula that used bright blue was the light grey yellow.  In the last class I asked Donna what she used for her light grey yellow and she said she used national blue.  The other neutral and black formulas used navy.  So far I've done all the blacks and the neutrals except the light gray yellow and the reddish brown.

I got two fairly decent blacks (A and my favorite C) out of the three formulas, but also noticed that my natural cotton ties (carpet warp) turned out much lighter than the tencel (as they do for all my dyeing so far).  For the cotton you may need to increase the navy, as Karren suggested.

I love the color grey you got.

Mary,

I used navy for the blue grey color.

For my blacks I used Navy as the blue.  My black 'C' is definitely black on the organza, and about as black as I am going to get on the silk paj.  For my 10 yard piece I upped the DOS to 10% Black 'C'.

My blue/gray is more gray than blue.  I used Navy as the blue.  I still like it as a cool, deep gray.  My Munsell notation is:  2.5B 3/2 for it.
