I am warping my Glimakra standard for a baby wrap for our daughter-in-law and grandson.  Because of the length of the warp, I thought weaving would go faster if I used my flying shuttle.  I got it with my loom and have never used it.  Can I use it with a floating selvedge?  How would I handle that while weaving?  I saw someone had a sort of choke tie or something rigged around the selvedge to pull it down with the flyer toggle or something?

Floating selvages have become very popular, but in most cases you can weave without them.  And it is not compatible with the fly shuttle .

What is the weave you are using?  Wraps are usually plain weave or twill, which do not need a FS.

PS plan a little extra warp at the beginning so that you can practice with the fly shuttle.  But, it does not take very long to get used to how hard to pull the handle.  Have fun.

If you have a spare shaft and your treadling a W or / formation (treadling opposites) you can let the loom lower and raise the FS by threading in a heddle on each edge of the warp. Alternate the tie-up for this shaft. I am doing this now on a waffle weave. There are only two ends on the shaft. And being a countermarche all shafts are tied to move down or up. I'm not using a flying shuttle, but the edge ends are moving up then down without a bit of trouble.

SallyE and Bigwhitesofadog are members here that have rigged a connection from the castle and pull cord to the FS to do the lifting. Maybe send them a message for some instruction.
