I am enamored with the sliding beaters on the Dutchmaster table loom and the Louet David floor loom. The beater is always perpendicular to the cloth so it seems that the sweet spot would be much bigger. Is that correct? I have a Norwood floor loom with a supported beater. I'd like to remove the long uprights, which are attached to the reed support with screws, and replace them with sliders of some kind, which will be attached to the side beams. The two options I know of are drawer type slides and wood blocks on rods. I may try both. My question is, what design features should I be aware of? I know the reed should be perpendicular to the fell. What else?
