After purchasing a Macomber AddAHarness loom that came with 4 harnesses and 258 heddles., Ie ordered another 200 heddles but have discovered 458 will still not be enough. How many heddles do others keep handy?

You don't mention what the weaving width of your Mac is, but a decent "rule of thumb" is

finest epi you like to weave x inches of weaving width ÷ number of shafts/harnesses = number of heddles/shaft

For example, if your finest epi is 30, and you don't weave things wider than 32 inches, 30 x 32 = 960. Divide that between 4 shafts, and you get about 250 heddles per shaft. OTOH, if your Mac is a 24-inch Baby Mac, and you don't weave anything finer than about 24 epi, you need a lot fewer heddles (24 x 24 = 576 ÷ 4 = 144/shaft).

If you do a lot of tied structures, you may have half of your ends on the tie shafts.  Being fond of lace, I keep a lot of heddles on one and two.  Weaving software can tell you how many heddles/shaft your pattern takes.
