I'm curious .Does anyone ever embroider their tapestry ? is this a no no in the tapestry world  because line and texture  should be created with weaving techniques-or do you think it adds an extra layer of interest? Is it okay to add beads or objects? I haven't tried it yet although I do use multiple techniques in other fiber work.I hope to enter some ATA or HGA exhibits -would this disqualify the work?

I do not do tapestry, but I have seen many examples of tapestry with all the things you mention. Anyway, - it is your project, do what you like!

American Tapestry Alliance exhibits have works that are both "traditional" in that there's only traditionally thought of weft-faced surface pieces AS WELL as pieces that have other media and techniques used, as well. One of the most highly regarded tapestry makers, Susan Martin Maffei, has been using crocheted figures as part of her tapestries for several years now. Lany Elia has been using beading on recent tapestries. Linda Weghorst also uses beads on smaller tapestries... and many of those she's mounting on handwoven fabric that she's done marbleing on... so the field is open, in my opinion. The bottom line is that whatever is done to the work is integral to the design concept and that the technique is well done, in my opinion again. Tommye

Thank you for your thoughtful comment-I was unfamiliar with Susan Martin Maffei's work.I can't imagine working on that level yet -but I feel quite happy that I can give myself a little more design freedom.
