Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that I've updated my blog with photos of my latest progress in the dye study group.  I have finished my process samples and am moving on to dyeing samples of each of the "pure" colors, at different concentrations of dye.

This is both challenging and fun - and I'm developing an eye for color like never before!

Tien has worked out a process, with only a few moments of frustration, that works for Lanaset dyes. You can tell from her blog she is proud of those three little cards of grey.

I just want to explain what an achievement it is to dye three 5g skeins the same color, each one dyed separately.  Just to dye three skeins the same color (with out any dye lot difference) is an quite an accomplishment but doing it on tiny 5g skeins is more difficult.  When dyeing small amounts one drop of dye or any other variation can have a big impact on the color where if you are dyeing 500g the same drop is insignificant.   But it is hard to develop colors and use 500g to try out a dye formula.  So dyeing tiny skeins is essential to sampling. And we all know about sampling.

But Tien is not the only one to achieve this; Larry has been working with Cibacron F on Tencel and now with a new digital balance has done these samples, dyed three different times.

He says that the dyeing is better than the photography and that in person these match perfectly.

Everyone that has completed this exercise has had the same kind of results.  These people are now amazing dyers.  I hope you are as impressed as much as I am.
