Notes

Two days ago I got finished with using up the last of my dyed yarn and had calculated that I had enough to make a "little scarf" [ 7 inches X 60 inches] of the Clan Johnston tartan. I figue I will send it to a cousin who I hope will give it to her grandchild. So while I took the next day off to catch up on other home needs I already was thinking of another project to use more of the gifted yarn I have. I looked online yesterday and saw this free draft for rosepath. Like a few others who need to try something new to kill the fear - this looks Ok to start with for me as it is described as an overshot. Now it is time to decide on the width and length to start the warp. Will add updates and photos as it comes along. Oct. 11,,,, finished dressing the loom and after lunch got started with actual weaving. I tied up treadles like I thought would work and made the first dozen or so weft passes and it just felt like "it" was not working right. I changed treadle tieups and took the draft print and just wrote the treadle numbers to follow and hang it on the loom, everything is working good with one exception. Either I have my treadling or heddle threading wrong but part way of the repeat I have selvegde yarn on both sides that goes beyond 4 passes to get caught in a weft pass. Oh, what did I get myself into?,,this overshot really is a mental exercise and is extra tuff with surrounding distractions ( trying to help wife with sewing decisions). Final Oct. 14. Now it is finished. I guess with the width it would be more like a shawl and turned out thicker with a texture and has more "cushion" that other weaves I have done. I got the selvedge problem corrected and had to retie and fix a warp yarn that separated at a heddle when I was about midlength. Not afraid of overshot now but the next time I would use more contrasting colors and possibly a yarn that is more like 12 WPI ( as this was 8 WPI).
